How to compare trainers online: fit, width and the return policy you will actually need

Trainer prices vary widely between shops for the same model and colour; fit and returns decide whether the saving is real.

The same trainer is often sold by six or more UK retailers at different prices, and the difference is largest on older colourways. Start with the exact model name and your size, because a discount on a size you do not wear is not a discount.

What to compare

  • Model name and version: a “90” and a “95” are different shoes with different fits
  • Width options, which many brands only sell direct
  • Free returns and the returns window, especially for sale items
  • Delivery cost added at checkout, which can cancel a small price gap
  • Whether the listing is an authorised retailer or a marketplace seller

If you are between sizes, buy from the shop with the easiest free returns rather than the cheapest headline price. Compare live prices for the exact model and colour before checking out, because sports retailers reprice popular lines several times a week.
